Just a stone’s throw from the city centre lies the Crown Granary Museum, a former state grain storehouse beautifully restored for contemporary use. The former state granary sheds light on Raahe’s past from prehistory to modern times and currently holds the famous Old Gentleman, the oldest diving suit in the world. At this museum you don’t have to settle for merely looking at the exhibits—trying and touching are allowed. Visitors can, for example, pet the seal lady Harmastus, try on a heavy diver’s helmet and lift a weight using blocks, or steer a virtual sailing ship with a real helm while exploring the other exhibition features. The exhibition at the Crown Granary continues to be expanded, so each visit may offer something new to experience.
